so, my question is, companies and organizations like united, google and yahoo are referred as plural or singular?

sometimes, i found that people wrote like google itself is singular which for me sounds right but the next sentences contradicted with the previous one.

eg: google has changed its algorithm due to massive manipulations of their system by spammers

now, you can see &#039;google has&#039; which shows that google is singular.
but, the writer then used &#039;their system&#039; which shows google as plural.
