Many reasons to this question. Here are a few.. Google has the best search algorithm therefore Google delivers the best results. It’s layout is clean and the search pages are not filled with useless images people don’t want to see. It’s fast because the pages are not bloated. Compare it to Yahoo! taking up half the screen with all those sponsor results.

Google’s reputation is constantly growing – they own YouTube and Google Video. How many people use YouTube and how many people blog? Way too many people. Google owns Blogspot/Blogger. This is why Google is so popular.

Ask.com’s binocular thing (in my own opinion) is a bit annoying. It gets in the way of the search results and if I wanted to see a webpage, I would click on the link – not see a small preview of it!!

Well, I don’t know about others, but I use it for school work mostly. I guess ever since I’ve had a computer, I’ve been used to going to Google. Maybe that sort of made me stay with it, because it’s something familiar to me. Also, most of the time I find accurate information. It’s also fast and easy and everything’s just listed down. It’s not confusing at all. Sure, other search engines are like this too, but Google is something that is popular and that MUST mean it’s good.

ive found more searching on google then yahoo even though i have it my home page i still search on google

There is nothing you can’t find on it, it is organised well, is not confusing and is just really well known.
It’s like Microsoft. iWorks is better in my opinion but everyone uses Windows instead because it’s famous.

Simply put: the algorithms that Google use are far superior to anything else out there which means, in layman terms, that the search results that are returned are far more likely to be relevant.

why is google so popular?
Google seems to be the king of search engines, but why is it? It has nothing special on it. And I even have it set as my home page but I dont know why.

So why is it the best search engine when others like Ask have more features like the binoculars thing?
